China’s 6G R&D Enters a New Phase as 6GHz Golden Frequency Band Approved

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has officially approved the application from the IMT-2030 (6G) Promotion Group for the use of the 6GHz frequency band in 6G trials. The approved spectrum covers 6425-7125 MHz with a continuous bandwidth of 700 MHz, marking accelerated progress in China’s 6G research and development. 

This milestone represents a crucial step forward for communication technologies moving from laboratory research toward commercial deployment. It also sends a clear message that 6G is far more than a simple upgrade of 5G. Instead, it aims to deliver seamless integrated coverage across air, space, land and sea. Under the 3GPP standard framework, satellite communications will be built into the native architecture of 6G, enabling ground and satellite networks to operate as a unified communication system.
